Katie Porter has a track record of holding powerful corporations accountable and is a leader for environmental justice for California.
In her work as a consumer protection attorney, Porter stood up to Wall Street banks to protect consumers. She advocated against abusive credit card fees and in 2012, was appointed by California Attorney General Kamala Harris to serve as the state’s independent monitor of banks in a nationwide $25 billion mortgage settlement. Previously, she taught at the University of California-Irvine’s law school.
As a representative, Porter will champion clean air, clean water, and oppose offshore drilling. She will be a leader in investing in clean energy.
Porter joins the U.S. House after defeating Representative Mimi Walters, who earned a 4% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
In her own words:
“Our community values the environment and deserves a champion for our air, water, and beaches, not another vote for big oil.”
