Joe Neguse has devoted his career to advancing the environmental movement in Colorado, where he co-founded New Era Colorado, a non-profit agency dedicated to climate and clean energy issues.
With New Era Colorado, Neguse worked to engage young people in efforts to fight climate change and to promote clean energy in the state. His work helped to address issues such as energy efficiency standards for rental units and a municipal clean energy utility in the city of Boulder. In 2008, he was elected to serve a six year term as a member of the University of Colorado’s Board of Regents, the second African American to serve on the board. Most recently, he served as Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies.
As a representative, Neguse will prioritize fighting for environment protections, including repealing the “Halliburton-loophole,” which enables the fracking industry, and advocating for renewable energy in the United States. He is the first African-American to represent Colorado in Congress.
Neguse joins the U.S. House to fill the seat of Representative Jared Polis, who earned a 92% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard and has been elected Governor of Colorado.
In his own words:
“Our climate is at grave risk, and a new generation of leaders must tackle this problem head on. That means taking bold action on renewable and clean energy and protecting the incredible public lands in the 2nd Congressional District and beyond.”
