Jimmy Gomez

California - District 34

Jimmy Gomez has been a longtime advocate for environmental justice, in California, where he has served both as an Assembly member, and now as the U.S. Representative for the 34th district.

While serving on the California General Assembly, Gomez helped to usher a number of bills that promote clean energy, extend greenhouse gas emissions targets, and promote a more equitable distribution of the funds generated by California’s cap-and-trade program. As the representative for California’s 34th district, he has been vocal in his opposition of the Trump Administration’s efforts to reduce national monuments, in Utah. He has also been a strong advocate for restoration efforts of the Los Angeles River. Gomez has received numerous awards, including the Green Leadership award from Green California and the Smith-Weiss Environmental Champion award from the Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters.

In Congress, Gomez will continue to fight to preserve our natural resources, ease our reliance on fossil fuels, and invest in public transportation.

Gomez returns to the U.S. House, after winning a special election last April to replace Representative Xavier Becerra, who was confirmed as Attorney General of California. Becerra earned a 91% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.

In his own words:

“[I] will continue to fight for environmental justice, preserving our natural resources, reducing our reliance on fossil fuels, investing in mass transit, smart development and will make fighting the effects of climate change a priority – this includes fighting Obama Administration policy rollbacks by climate change deniers from the Trump Administration and holding them responsible.”
