Washington, D.C. – Today, LCV Victory Fund, NRDC Action Fund PAC, and NextGen America announced that they have together raised over $11 million for federal and state candidates through GiveGreen so far in this election cycle.
During the 2016 election cycle, $8.35 million total was raised through GiveGreen for federal and state races. With five months to go until the 2020 November general election, LCV Victory Fund, NRDC Action Fund PAC, and NextGen America have already outraised the 2016 total by more than $3 million.
“Combating the climate crisis has never been more urgent, and voters clearly understand that the best way to mend the destruction caused by the Trump administration is to build power for climate action across the nation, up and down the ballot,” said LCV Victory Fund President Gene Karpinski. “While Donald Trump’s denial of science in response to the climate crisis and the coronavirus pandemic is putting our communities at risk, momentum is building for pro-environment candidates on GiveGreen who are ready to act.”
“We are in a fight for our children’s future—and this November, we’re going to make sure their future is brighter, healthier and more prosperous,” said Gina McCarthy, president and CEO of the NRDC Action Fund. “That means electing people who will make our country stronger coming out of this pandemic and in the face of the next looming public health crisis: climate change. The record-breaking support GiveGreen candidates are receiving shows voters are eager for leaders who will do just that, and build a better tomorrow.”
“Candidates running to tackle climate change face entrenched special interests backed by fossil fuel lobbyists. That’s why I’m proud to partner with GiveGreen to ensure candidates up and down the ballot get a fair fight,” said NextGen America founder Tom Steyer. “Together, we can seize this historic opportunity in November to tackle our climate crisis and rebuild our economy in a just, green, and equitable way.”
The GiveGreen platform offers donors a strategic vision for supporting candidates who will take real action on climate change, and for making lasting change in our political system. It works to make supporting climate champions as convenient and impactful as possible.
Since its inception in 2009, GiveGreen has raised more than $50 million and 72% of candidates supported through the program have won.
During the 2018 election cycle, donors contributed $23 million for federal and state races via GiveGreen, making it the largest progressive, issue-based candidate fundraising program.
